INTERNAL AUSSIE PAIRS LEAGUE RULES & FORMAT 2025

The Club Internal Aussie Pairs League for members during the Summer Season 2025 will be played on a league basis for individual players in the format shown below with points awarded to the winning and losing players in each match:

  1. The competition will run from 2nd May to 29th August on Friday afternoons, all matches starting at 2-00pm.

  2. The format will be Aussie Pairs (see explanation below) with each pairing drawn out of two pots on the day of each competition.

  • Pot A will contain the names of half of the players present on the day and Pot B will contain the remaining names of the players present

  • Pot A players will be those whose Club Handicap for 2025 is greater than those players in Pot B.

  1. At the start of each afternoon a ballot will take place to draw a player from Pot A to partner a player from Pot B who will then be
drawn against a pairing also drawn from Pot A and Pot B. For each match, one No.1 player will be from Pot A and the other No.1 player will be from Pot B; and likewise, one No.2 player will be from Pot B and the other No.2 player will be from Pot A.

  2. The match will be 8 ends with 4 woods each and Aussie Pairs is played as follows:-

  • After a coin toss for the Jack both No.1 players start with their No.2’s at the opposite end to mark any touchers and remove any ‘dead’ woods.

  • The No.1’s only bowl 2 of their 4 woods and then swap ends for the No.2’s to bowl all 4 of their woods.

  • The No.1’s then swap ends again toplay their last two woods at which point the score is agreed and the next end begins with the No.2’s bowling first (2 woods only).

This format therefore gives both the No.1’s and No.2’s the same opportunity to mark, measure, ‘fire’ if needed, etc.

  1. League points will be awarded to each of the individual players in both the winning and losing Pairings with their match score simply divided by two. So, if the score finishes 18-11 then each winner receives 9 points and each loser 5.5 points. This ensures that every end is competitive right to the finish of each match.

  2. These points are added to the individual player’s points total in the league table. However, only the top 4 scores for each player will count on the league table. This means that once players have played 4 matches, they can only increase their score on the table by bettering their 4th lowest score. This enables a player to dramatically improve  their league position even on the final game of the season.

Note:
In the quite likely event that the number of players attending the session is not a multiple of 4 then the following will come into play: If (for example) 13 players attend then the first 12 players arriving will take part in the session of 8 ends and a second session will take place in which the player/players who missed out on Session 1 will be guaranteed a place.
